Thomas Shaffer, of
Millsboro, was referred to KSI in March 2006 by the Division of
Developmental Disabilities Services.
Tommy, as he prefers
to be called, speaks very softly, but he openly communicates his
thoughts and feelings. He does not like to inconvenience anyone, and
usually starts his sentences with, “I don’t want to be a bother,
...” or “I don’t want to cause any trouble, ...”
He also expresses his
feelings about KSI very openly. “I’m thankful for KSI,” Tommy says
whenever he is recognized for having perfect attendance. While Tommy
prefers jobs which require physical strength, like handling or
supplying materials, he is an employee willing to work wherever he
may be needed. He is assembling and packaging scoops and measures
for DENTSPLY/ Caulk in this picture.
Horseback riding is
one of Tommy’s favorite pastimes. He also likes spending time with
his special lady friend. They like going to the movies and out to
dinner. As Tommy’s independence grows, so, too, does his
self-confidence. He may be soft spoken, but he definitely has an
opinion to share. |
