James “Leroy” Hicks of Harrington was recently honored by KSI as the Participant of First Quarter 2025 Award. Participating with KSI since 1980, Hicks is known for his gentle, mild-mannered nature and for taking on diverse work challenges. He worked in KSI’s Supported Employment Program at a local Wendy’s restaurant for 14 years before his sight diminished. He worked on an assortment of jobs in KSI’s Milford center after that, was vice president of the participant-led KSI Aktion Club, and is now a compassionate mentor and advocate for other participants. He currently is part of the selection committee for the KSI Staff of the Quarter awards.

As employee of the quarter, Hicks’s name has been added to a permanent plaque at KSI and he will be given a plaque to take home. He also receives a $50 gift card or prize, a photo displayed on the Participants of the Quarter recognition board at KSI’s Milford center, a KSI News feature, an automatic invitation to the KSI Annual Dinner as well as a feature in the Annual Dinner program, and more.
