Participant of the Fourth Quarter was presented in June to Kayla Strohmeyer for her energetic, positive character and for being a real motivator for her peers. Kayla is known for partnering up with new participants at KSI’s Milford Skill Development Center and helping them get acclimated to their new situation. She’s gained a lot of work-related experience on production jobs at KSI’s Skill Development Center, learning to work cooperatively and gaining valuable skills.

During her non-working hours at KSI, her Case Manager noticed she had a real passion for something in particular—cooking. The Case Manager found out about The Food Bank of Delaware’s Kitchen School, a 12-week food service training program designed for adults with disabilities. She applied for and was accepted into the culinary program, which was the beginning of a whole new life linked to her passion. Kayla graduated in July 2023 from her initial training and is working as a direct-hire employee with The Food Bank of Delaware’s Milford Cafe.

Kayla is focused on moving forward with her life and making use of opportunities to gain the skills and experiences needed to achieve her dreams. She’s eligible for the distinction as Participant of the Year, to be announced during the KSI Annual Dinner on July 9.
